DESIGN

Design at Andblack is an investigation of space, material, and interaction. From installations to pavilions, art, and temporary structures, each project is a study in form, light, and impermanence. We work at the intersection of precision and experimentation, where material properties and spatial constructs are tested, challenged, and redefined. These interventions are not just objects in space but active participants in dialogue—with their context, users, and the evolving nature of design itself.

Wooden Tower

Installation

2015

The Wooden Tower is a rigid rectangle punctuated by a sinuous void – defining space not just by what is built, but by what is carved away.

Paper Cocoon Pavilion

Pavilion

2024

Paper Cocoon Pavilion challenges the rigidity of enclosures, using paper panels that shift with movement, edged with fire-burnt borders that define yet dissolve boundaries.

UB Heritage

Installation

2024

A kinetic sculpture in perpetual transformation. Engineered as a study of balance, motion, and infinite variation, its two rotating elements—one forming an infinity loop, the other stabilizing its form—operate in non-repetitive synchrony, responding fluidly to wind and gravitational forces.

Shrine

Installation

An aluminum installation that reshapes the courtyard, Shrine is a spatial intervention—an immersive volume carved by fluid geometries, balancing enclosure and permeability, structure and sensation.

Seed

Installation

2020

A study in distortion and perception, this installation reconfigures cardboard—an everyday material—into a layered form that suggests the latent energy of a seed, the origin of growth.

Wooden Cocoon

Installation

2015

A structure that refuses to sit still. Wooden Cocoon breaks from grids, tilts perception, and turns birch ply into an unfolding spatial experience—temporary in presence, permanent in impact.

Peacock

Art

2016

The White Peacock is a kinetic art installation whose cyclical journey across a wooden façade symbolizes aspiration, grace, and the perpetual momentum of a nation in flight.

Paper Tube Pavilion

Pavilion

2013

Reconfiguring waste into structure, this pavilion is a stitched system of industrial paper tubes which aims to reimagine a discarded material into a self-supporting, deployable architectural skin.

Muqarna

Art

2015

Tradition is re-calibrated through parametric logic in this lighting installation where over 30,000 laser-cut MDF interlock in a measured sequence, drawing from the geometric depth of Islamic Muqarnas.

Wooden Lattice

Installation

2015

A self-supporting lattice where structure and surface converge. This installation for Vana at India Art Fair interrogates the relationship between craft and computation, material intelligence, and the tectonics of assembly.

Marble Screen

Art

2023

This marble screen is a study in material precision and light modulation. Inspired by Ahmedabad’s Tree of Life, it transforms traditional ornamentation into an architecturally performative surface.

Wooden Screen

Installation

2014

The Wooden Screen at Vana Retreats negotiates between structure, perception, and temporality. It is an intervention that is both defined and dissolved by its site.

Wooden Leaf

Installation

2023

A Wooden Leaf captures the paradox of movement and stillness—an artisan’s delicate interpretation of time, where a singular moment is frozen, yet eternally shifting in form.

Ghatam

Installation

2021

A vessel. A womb. A sanctuary of life. Ghatam reimagines the primal act of nurturing—holding, protecting, and sustaining—through a sculptural form that speaks of origins and continuity.

Vayu

Art

2024

Vayu is a parametric installation that translates airflow into a kinetic field. An array of calibrated elements responds to movement, blurring the boundary between structure and fluidity.
