30,000 MDF components coalesce into a ceiling where material, light, and parametric reasoning operate as a singular system—blurring the line between ornament and structure, heritage and computation.

Muqarna is a ceiling that behaves like a landscape—one of depth, rhythm, and structural intelligence. A composition of 30,000 laser-cut MDF pieces, it folds and layers upon itself, creating an immersive interplay of light and shadow.
The installation is as much about construction as it is about perception. Seen from one angle, it is a rigid system; from another, it dissolves into patterns. By introducing controlled variation into the assembly, the ceiling resists uniformity—offering an effectual encounter between material, movement, and viewpoint.
The recognition of light in the space is shaped by the installation. The depth of each niche, the sharpness of every edge, the precise gaps between modules—all computed to modulate illumination. Shadows stretch, contract, and realign as one moves beneath it, making the ceiling an active participant in the space.
